Yuna Knight
Yuna Kang Knight · the K-beauty longevity ebook

My mother is sixty‑seven. People guess fifty‑two. This is everything she does.

No facelift, no filler, not one clinic laser. Just a warm towel at night, a cold one in the morning, and the same few steps every day. I spent years reading the research behind each one. This 379-page ebook is her routine, the science under it, and an honest rating for every technique and ingredient.

Illustration from the ebook: a warm towel, a bowl of rice water and a wooden comb
1984
A tearoom in Pyeongtaek, near Osan Air Base. An Ohio mechanic orders “one warm sock, please.”
Where this comes from

My mother, Kang Mi-sook, was born in 1958 in Jeonju, South Korea. My father, James Knight from Dayton, Ohio, was an Air Force mechanic who walked into her tearoom on a dare to order in Korean. She laughed so hard she had to sit down. He came back the next day, and the next.

I grew up in Columbus watching her from the edge of the bathtub. She knelt by the tub so the water ran down and away. She warmed a damp towel in the microwave at night and froze the same towel in the morning, next to the peas. Every stroke went upward. Every morning, even in an Ohio January, sunscreen.

She learned most of it from her mother, my Halmeoni, Lee Bok-nam: rice water, ground mung beans, camellia oil combed through the hair. In my thirties I finally started looking it all up in the dermatology and physiology journals. Some of it turned out to be hard science. Some of it is pure tradition. The ebook tells you which is which.

“Pat. Never rub. Your face is not a kitchen table.”Umma, tapping my cheek
Chapter 11 · The three things that matter most

The towel is the ritual. These three do the work.

If you remember nothing else from the ebook, remember the habits with the strongest evidence behind them. Everything else, the towels, the stones, the cups, the rice water, is how you make these feel like a ritual instead of a chore.

01

Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen

In the Nambour trial, adults assigned to daily sunscreen showed no detectable increase in skin aging over four and a half years. Nothing else in the ebook has evidence that strong.

Strong
02

A retinoid at night

Once your skin can handle it. Decades of trials, from tretinoin for sun-damaged skin to retinol at 0.4%. Umma has used hers for ten years: “Cream, medicine, cream. Like kimbap.”

Strong
03

Gentle, consistent barrier care

A mild cleanser, lukewarm water, patting instead of rubbing, and a moisturizer with ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. The barrier is what lets you tolerate everything else.

Strong

“The towel is not the medicine. The towel is why I come to the bathroom. Then the sunscreen and the cream do the work.” — Umma

The honest part

Every technique and ingredient gets one of four labels.

I promised myself I'd be honest about what works. “Traditional” isn't an insult. It just means enjoy it for what it is, and don't spend your rent money on it.

Strong

Several good human trials or a meta-analysis support it.

Moderate

Some human trials, with promising but limited results.

Early

Small pilot studies, or mostly lab and animal research so far.

Traditional

Long heritage of use, with little or no modern evidence yet.

The towel in the microwave.

Here's Ritual 2.1 from page 60, the one my father teased her about for thirty years. The ebook version comes with the vessel science behind it, the illustrated steps on page 61, and who should skip it.

Every ritual in the ebook is laid out like this: what you need, how long, numbered steps, how often, how it should feel, and the stop signs.

Who's writing

I'm Yuna. I watched from the edge of the bathtub.

I'm forty, Korean-American, and I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Kang, my middle name, is Umma's family name; she made sure it stayed in mine. For most of my twenties I ignored all of this, slept in my makeup and assumed my mother's skin was luck and genes.

In my thirties I started reading the actual studies, in dermatology and physiology journals, not product pages. I'm not a doctor or an esthetician. I'm a careful reader who wanted to know whether the freezer towel does anything. Now I do most of Umma's routine myself, a little less faithfully than she does.

Questions

Before you buy.

Is it a printed book?

No. It's a 379-page PDF ebook, downloaded right after checkout. Read it on your phone in the bathroom or print the ritual cards you use most. There's no account to make.

Do I need to buy special tools?

No. Level 1 in Chapter 11 is five minutes with a cleanser, a moisturizer and sunscreen. Most rituals use a washcloth, your microwave and your freezer. When a tool is worth buying (a roller, a gwalsa stone, cups, an LED mask), the ebook tells you what to look for and what to skip.

Is this medical advice?

No. It's a researched guide, not a substitute for a dermatologist. Every chapter has caution boxes for pregnancy, rosacea, melasma, eczema, blood thinners and more, and sudden or patchy hair loss always needs a doctor. Patch test anything new.

How are the ebooks free with the serum?

Put the Auravael Elite Elixir in your cart and both ebooks, the rituals ebook and the recipe ebook, are added at $0 automatically. You pay for the serum only, both ebooks download on the next screen, and the serum ships to the address you enter at checkout.

How does the second ebook deal work?

Your first ebook is the regular price. Add the other ebook to the same order and it drops to $17.50 automatically, no code needed.

What does the serum do, exactly?

It's a cosmetic leave-in scalp treatment: Auravael describes it as supporting a balanced, comfortable scalp and the appearance of fuller, healthier-looking hair. It contains no minoxidil, finasteride, silicones, parabens or synthetic fragrance. It isn't a medicine and isn't meant to treat hair loss. Apply a little to the scalp 2–4 times a week and massage for 30–60 seconds; one 10 mL bottle lasts about 2–4 months. Read the ebook's entries on its essential oils (and patch test) if you're pregnant, have epilepsy, or have sensitive skin.

Is Yuna a real person?

Yuna Kang Knight, Kang Mi-sook and their family are characters created for this ebook, as its copyright page says. Their story frames real, researched techniques, and every source is listed at the back.

Can I return the serum?

Serum: returns are accepted only for an unopened box with its seal sticker intact, within 30 days. Once the box seal is broken, it can't be returned for hygiene reasons. Damaged, leaking, wrong or lost? We replace it free. The full policy is on the returns page.

What if it isn't for me?

Email support@yunakangbeauty.com within 7 days and you'll get the ebook price back in full.
